Back from Canada

We recently got back from a 10 day trip to see Jordan, Caleb, Victoria and the whole Yuck family!  We loved traveling up there in August, compared to our last two visits which were in December!  Everyone up there is doing wonderful and it was so nice getting to see them all again!  We love both the Yuck families!

On our trip up we tried a new game called "All 50 States".  Everyone searches to find license plates from different states, calls them out, and marks it on their paper.  We played it all the way there and whoever finds the most is the winner.  It would be bragging to say who the winner was, so I'll just leave you with that!!! ; )

Ethan even brought out his binoculars for the game, trying to get the edge on the rest of us!

Wait a minute!  Which border crossing are we at?
(Mexico, New York!)

We took both our dogs on our 18 hour journey and they were excellent travelers!  This was Clancy's first trip!

And what is a good trip without junk food snacks!  Our family favorite is Bugles with Kraft squeeze cheese.  Dad and I got a little crazy on the way up.  He "cheesed" me on the forehead and I "cheesed" him on the top of his head.  (He started it, trust me!)

Victoria sure was surprised to see all of us in her house at 3:00 in the morning when we arrived, but she quickly warmed up to everyone!  She sure has grown a lot since March, when we last saw her!  She was almost on the verge of crawling while we were with her, but I think she had so many people to keep her preoccupied, that she had no need to, because two days after we left Caleb and Jordan's house, they called and said that she was pulling herself up on things and crawling!  That little turkey!

The kids playing ball in Jordan and Caleb's backyard...

Who's on first, What's on second, and I Don't Know's on third!

It's nice to see them all playing and getting along so well together!

We celebrated Noah's birthday while we were in Canada, and it was the first time we've really done a "themed" party!  Jordan made him a minion cake from the movie Despicable Me.  Didn't she do a terrific job!!!!

All of the decorating and wrapping centered around the minions theme.

Everyone waiting to see Noah's reaction...

They led him in blindfolded...
And...SURPRISE!

He was thrilled!

Victoria enjoying some snuggle time with Papa and Nana!

All of Noah's Minions!

After celebrating Noah's birthday, we then celebrated Jordan's, Caleb's, and Victoria's birthdays, as well as Christmas, so that we could watch them open their gifts.

Enjoying playing with her Auntie Libby

She liked the toys that everybody got for her!

Caleb helping Noah practice his fishing.  They were gearing up to go later on in our visit...

Playing Bolaball, or Ladderball...

Gram and Pop went with us on this trip, so it was really nice having everyone there together!

We had a campfire one night around the pit in Caleb and Jordan's backyard...

(Caleb made this for Jordan with the chainsaw.  Pretty sweet!)

Staying warm

The mosquitos were pretty bad, so Caleb brought out a mosquito net to protect Victoria.

Uncle Ethan and his little niece

We played a lot of cards while we were up there, mainly Hand and Foot.
Victoria in her Jolly Jumper!

An intense game of Parcheesi is under way!

We bought Victoria a Cozy Coupe for her Christmas gift and I think she really liked it!  We used to have one growing up and we played with that thing for a really long time!  It was nice to be able to see her enjoying it as well!

Precious moments...

Ethan with his prize fish,...whatever it may be!  I told you earlier that the boys were planning on fishing from Caleb's boat while we were up there....Well, they got their chance.  Sort of.  They got out on the river, pushed off from the shore, and....no engine!  So they decided to drift out a little, try their hand at fishing to see what they might catch, and then proceeded to row themselves to shore!  I'm sure that they were glad that they didn't get farther down the river before the engine gave out.  They would have had a lot more rowing to do!

As it turned out, Ethan caught this fish in the river.  The locals didn't recognize it, but said it was a saltwater fish.  Go figure!

Two grammies enjoying their little girl.

We also went bowling!

Everyone had a wonderful time.  Some were competitive, some were not, and some just got lucky!

A cute little family

Me...enjoying my hideous looking bowling shoes!  Grimace!

My sweet parents!

We always eat well when we are on vacation.  Too well!  I guess good food is a part of the vacationing tradition with us!  One night, Dad made us some delicious ribs with the Yucks homegrown sweet corn, baked potatoes, coleslaw, and cheddar bay biscuits!  Can anyone say "Yum!"

More card playing...
...and some more!

How cute is she?!?

We decided one afternoon to hop on a plane and take a visit to....
(Just kidding...this was Scotland, Pennslyvania!)

The Lanark Highland Games were going on while we were up there, so we decided it might make a fun afternoon to travel up there to see it.  So we dressed as Scottish as we could in such short notice and headed off for a day of fun!

The little girls outfits were all so pretty...

Caleb eating haggis.  We all tried the Haggis Pie, and Caleb went back and got the Fried Haggis as well.  It really tasted good!
The following is Wikipedia's description of Haggis:

Haggis is a savoury pudding containing sheep's pluck (heart, liver and lungs); minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and traditionally encased in the animal's stomach and simmered for approximately three hours.

I know it doesn't sound the greatest, but it really was surprisingly good.  If you ever get the chance to try it, you should.

At the Highland Games, there was a total of 17 bands, filled with bagpipes and drums, that played in front of the grandstands where we sat.  It was amazing when they all came up and played at the same time.  Talk about deafening!

Dad and Victoria enjoying the bagpipes!

Doesn't this man have "Scotsman" written all over him?

The next three pictures cracked me up!  Can you spot the little boy in the green shirt walking along with all of those loud bagpipes?  He stayed with the bands the whole time they were on the field and kept his ears plugged the entire time!

The following pictures are my favorite from the day!

We had the opportunity to join in on a few of the Scottish country dances.  Mom and Dad were partners, Caleb and Jordan were partners, Savannah and I were partners, and Ethan and Noah sat out, holding Victoria and taking pictures.   These picture are a bit blurry, but it will give you an idea of the fun we were having!

And of course, you have to have the strong man competions.  These were the competitors for the sheaf throw, the weight throw, the weight over the bar throw, and the caber toss.

Now, by the name "caber toss", it sounds easy enough, right?  I mean "toss" is in the name!  Even I can toss.  Well...A caber is a big log that each man carries sticking straight up and then throws into the air with the goal of getting one full rotation out of it and landing in a straight line to himself.  A little harder than the name implies!  In the above photo, the men are holding the caber and in the photo below, one of them is "tossing" it! ; )

Victoria soaking it all in.
It was a fun-filled day with lots of new things to see and learn about!

Back at home, the kids enjoyed playing Running Pictionary in the basement!

Visiting...

Watermelon Cake made by Dad

During our visit, Caleb had taken the boat in to get it fixed, so on our final day there, he took us out for rides it in.  It was a beautiful day and a sweet time of enjoying just being together on our last day there.

We had a wonderful time up in Canada visiting our family!  It is always so nice to just get away from the busyness of life and relax and enjoy each other's company.  We are so thankful that Jordan is settling in well to life up there and enjoying being a wife and mother.  We couldn't ask for anything better!

  3. What a terrific post, Kelsey!! That must've taken forever!

We so, so loved visiting with you, as always, and I particularly enjoyed it when I beat you at cards! I did beat you at cards, didn't I? I mean, didn't I beat someone at least once? Or did I lose every game? I can't remember. But I'm sure I had fun, whether I won or lost. I think, though, I probably had more fun if I won. :-)

You're all the best, even your dad, we couldn't ask for better outlaws!! ;-)
