Two Goats and A Dog

Last Sunday at 10:30 p.m., we got a call to let us know that our new goats were in town! So Mom and Dad drove about an hour, picked up the goats that some friends had graciously transported from Georgia, and made it home by 12:00. We got them home, milked them, settled them in for the night, and fell into bed ourselves! The next morning we introduced them to the herd. Right away they all started establishing their pecking order, but it all went pretty smooth!

On the left is Ivy, who is 4, and on the right is Sunshine, who is 1. As soon as we started milking Sunshine, she put up a fuss. A big fuss! She kicked and squirmed and made it completely impossible to milk. The next day we tried again. Still the same thing. That day, my Poppy came up with the name Sunshine and it fit perfectly. So that night when she wouldn't sit still to milk, we sang:

"You are my Sunshine, my only Sunshine,

You make me happy when skies are gray.

You'll never know, dear, how much I love you.

Please don't take my Sunshine away!"

And you know what, it worked! She sat as still as anything, and when she did lift up her foot, it was in s..l...o...w... motion. As long as we sing, she does pretty good. Oh, and it doesn't work for men! Dad tried singing it, and she still put up a fuss! Funny little goat!

We also got a new dog! Well, he's not really "new". I'll explain...but first, meet Malachi

Malachi was a puppy of ours that we raised. He was born on July 5th, 2009. Recently the owners emailed us and let us know that they would be selling him and wanted to know if we would want him first. I personally wanted a male Great Pyrenees. We had males in years past, but we had sold them all. They are just so big and impressive looking. So when we recieved this email, I was elated! He has turned out to be wonderful, and he smiles! Really smiles!
